Pinterest for Photographers… Yes or No?

Should photographers use pinterest? | Marketing for Photographers with Ariel Dilworth

should photographers use Pinterest?

Should photographers use Pinterest for marketing? This is one of the top 10 marketing questions I receive from photographers.

My response is always, “why do you want to add Pinterest?” I always here some form of, “I need more photography clients.” And I get that! I’ve been there! I get that you aren’t happy with the results you’re getting on Facebook or Instagram. I understand feeling like a new platform might change everything. You’re looking at those blank squares on your calendar feeling discouraged! You want to fill them up with sessions!

But the truth is, marketing yourself in as many ways as possible isn’t the answer to getting more clients! Marketing yourself in the RIGHT ways and in the RIGHT places IS the answer.

But is Pinterest one of those right places?

We hear all these wonderful things about Pinterest. How it is the missing puzzle piece that will lead our business to success. We’re told how it will drive thousands of people to our website. We hear from major influencers that Pinterest is KEY in attracting the right people to our website. They tell us all about how changing their Pinterest approach has changed their business (and their lives) forever. They tell us all about how Pinterest is the reason they went from 0 to 64,000 followers in two years.

What they are saying might be true for entrepreneurs! But, for photographers, that might not be the case! Because for us, it all boils down to whether or not Pinterest leads to more clients. And if a marketing effort doesn’t lead to more clients we have to ask ourselves, “why would we do it in the first place?”
